What Does Your Mirror Reflect?
Once other people know you are a Christian they will start watching for signs of it. If we say we are Christians but our lives and actions don’t reflect it… people start to doubt you and also doubt God. Being a Christian is not a hobby… it’s not something we do in private… it’s not something to be ashamed of. Being a Christian is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year lifestyle… it is a true and deep relationship with God developed by constantly being in God’s Word and communicating with God (prayer)… it’s something people should see when they look at us. Therefore, I fully believe that as Christians we should be mirrors that reflect Jesus Christ to the world around us!
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Jesus is actually the light… we are to reflect that light to the world around us. John 8:12 says, When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
The Bible tells us many ways that we should live and act. In those ways we can reflect Jesus Christ. Here are some of the ways the Bible says we should be in Ephesians 4:26-32: “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
The main question here is… What or who do you reflect in your actions and life? Does your mirror need to be cleaned so that others can see Jesus Christ reflected more clearly? Is your mirror possibly warped and reflecting a confusing or mixed message? Or is it possible that your mirror doesn’t reflect Jesus Christ at all but instead reflects the world and the ways of the world? I’m praying that we each check our mirrors daily and ensure they truly reflect Jesus… by reading our Bibles daily, staying in prayer and asking God to show where we may be coming up short.
